Five scary movies to watch this Halloween

We all enjoy a good scary movie from time to time, and Halloween is the best night of the year to sit back with a bowl of popcorn and be truly frightened. If you are looking for inspiration for the spookiest night of the year, then you have definitely come to the right place! Take a look at our top five scary movies for your Halloween movie marathon!

  1. A Quiet Place
A quiet place

Starring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski ‘A Quiet Place’ is truly terrifying.
Critic Reviews:
“This new horror classic will fry your nerves to a frazzle.” – Peter Travers from Rolling Stone
A family of four have to navigate their lives in silence after creatures invade the earth. These creatures are blind and rely on their hearing to hunt. If they hear you, they will hunt you.
This movie has received high ratings all around, with critics commenting on the “beautifully shot cinema” and it’s “ingenious sound design”. My advice would be to leave the noise-y snacks alone whilst watching this film, because everyone will be able to hear you crunching your popcorn or rustling that bag of sweets.

  1. Halloween (2018)

We all love a good film franchise and if you are planning on binge watching movies all night, then what better way to end the night than to pop out to the cinema to watch the story finally come to a close.
Critic Reviews:
“Finally, Hollywood has made a good “Halloween” sequel. It took them only 40 years.” - Johnny Oleksinski from the New York Post
It has been 40 years since Laurie Strode last survived the attacks of Michael Myers. When he escapes the institution he was locked away in, he comes back to Haddonfield to pay her a visit. Will she make it out alive?
Worth a watch if you loved the old movies. I love the fact that you could start your night watching events unfold in the originals and then rejoin the story today!

  1. The Scream Franchise
Scream Franchise

“Do you like scary movies?” – I love scary movies, but more than that, I loved the Scream franchise for its mixture of horror and comedy. These films were the only films I could stomach growing up and again, they are great to binge watch!
Critic Reviews:
“Clever, quick and bloody funny. 'Bloody' being the operative word.” – Empire Magazine
A knife-wielding maniac stalks a high school student in middle-class suburbia. The victims aren’t always the ones you would expect and the killer is never who you think it’ll be!

  1. Hereditary

Critic Reviews:
“Hereditary is an arthouse middle finger to its shrill mainstream counterparts like Insidious and The Conjuring.” - Mihir Fadnavis from Firstpost
When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter's family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited.
A creepy film that will still be sending chills down your spine long after you have finished watching it.

  1. The Silence of the Lambs
The Silence of the Lambs

We all love a classic. ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ was released in 1991 and is well worth the watch, even if you’ve seen it before.
Critic Reviews:
“A first unmissable, then enduring, but always unmissable classic.” - Barry McIlheney from Empire Magazine
A young FBI agent seeks help from an incarcerated murderer, and cannibal, to catch a violent madman who skins his victims.
I still love this film!
